Award winning images from the Omo Valley
28th August 2019
Earlier this year, Wild Images went on an extensive exploratory photography trip to the Omo Valley and Ilemi Triangle regions of south-western Ethiopia. It was an intense trip led by Inger Vandyke that visited around 17 different ethnic groups in this spectacular corner of Africa.
Joining her was Wild Images guest Polly Fenton who loved being in such a wild and culturally diverse region.
Upon their return, the awards from this trip started to flow in. Inger’s portraits from the Omo Valley appeared in the UK national press with a story in The Times, they were shortlisted in the Africa Geographic Photographer of the Year and they also have appeared in the prestigious Atlas of Humanity project in exhibitions in Italy and China. Her portrait of Bariti, an Arbore girl from the Omo Valley is now the headline image for the Atlas of Humanity’s exhibition in Paris in November.
Continuing on with this success we are thrilled to announce that FOUR of Polly’s portrait images from her trip have recently won awards at the National Mono Awards in Australia. This competition attracts thousands of entries from across Australia and highlights some of the most beautiful black and white photography in the country.
Upon hearing her wonderful news, Polly wrote to Inger saying “You are such a great teacher and so inspiring” . At Wild Images we will always remain very teacher focussed. After all our guests’ portfolios inspire us every trip and every day!
A huge CONGRATULATIONS on these awards Polly! You shot some truly beautiful work on this trip and we look forward to hearing about your future successes! For more of Polly’s beautiful images you can follow her on Instagram @polly_fenton.
