More than a million wildebeest and zebras flood into Tanzania’s southeastern Serengeti between February and April, and the predators, including Lions, Cheetahs, Leopards and Spotted Hyaenas, take full advantage. Photographic possibilities are legion, for as well as the predators there are numerous herbivores, characterful Hippos and countless photogenic birds.

The Ngorongoro Crater, although just a fraction of the immense Serengeti ecosystem, is like a ‘pocket’ African wildlife world. The animals here have become ultra-tame, because there is a steady flow of visitors in vehicles on the network of tracks that criss-cross the crater floor. As a result wildlife photography is simply awesome! You can often get frame-filling shots of mammals and birds that in the wilder regions are fairly wary, but not here in Ngorongoro. For this reason alone, spending plenty of time here is essential on all serious Tanzania photography tours.
